Why worry?
John 20:19
When it was evening on that first day of the week, the disciples were gathered together with the doors locked because they feared the Jews. Jesus came, stood among them, and said to them, “Peace be with you.”
If you follow any kind of newsfeed, you know that crazy things happen just about every day. Many are worried about economics, societal issues, and politics, not to mention the mundane things of our immediate families. There’s just a lot to be stressed out about. But if there’s anything that we should be worried about, it’s our status before God. Would you be okay with dying today? Do you know where you would go? Many would be worried about this, and rightly so.
In John chapter 20, after Jesus had risen from the dead, he came to his worried disciples and said, “Peace be with you.” Why? Well, Jesus fulfilled the Scriptures. He accomplished his mission of paying the debt of sin on the cross, and then he rose from the dead to confirm that payment. So, he reassures them and us, “Peace be with you.” Because of Jesus, we are declared innocent before God. We have peace with God; our status is good. Knowing this makes everything else seem smaller and less worrisome because our biggest problem has been taken care of. You have eternal peace, my friends.
In Christ’s peace,
Vicar Valdez
