Why show love to our enemies?
Genesis 45:8a
“So then, it was not you who sent me here, but God.”
Joseph’s brothers had sold him into slavery into Egypt. In a series of what looked like horrible injustices, Joseph is unjustly accused, which leads him to being jailed, then languishing there.
But God knew what he was doing, for that put Joseph in place to interpret two dreams which God had given the Pharaoh, who in turn promoted Joseph – straight out of jail! – to become the second most powerful man in Egypt. Joseph was put in charge of collecting huge amounts of grain during 7 years of plenty, which was used to feed people during the 7 subsequent years of famine.
As Joseph looked back, he apparently could see the hand of God in all of it. And so he’s able to speak the words above, that it was really God who sent him to Egypt. Yes, what his brothers did was sinful, and hurtful. But God had good in it for Joseph, and for many others.
Just what good might God be working in your life, things not only for your benefit, but for the benefit of others? He knows the plans he has for you, and for all.
Thankful, just like you, that God knows the plans,
pastor
