What water can do
Luke 12:15
“Then he said to them, “Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; a man’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.”
Are you and I rich? May I suggest it depends on how we define “rich”? If we’re talking about the amount of money in our bank accounts, by American standards, it would be hard to say that any of us are rich.
But what if we define “rich” as the blessings we have from God? You have forgiveness of all your sins, the promise that Jesus is with you always, the promise that Jesus will take you to heaven. You’ve been baptized into the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, and so have become part of God’s family. You’re fed with the Lord’s Supper, in which Jesus gives you himself, his true body and blood, together with the bread and wine. You are assured that God has declared you to be innocent, so that he sees you as perfect and holy in his sight.
Are we rich? Oh my! We’re “rich” beyond all measure!
Thankful for the riches God’s given, just like you,
pastor
