What makes us winners?

Romans 8:37

“No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.”

Do you consider yourself a “conqueror”? Hmm… that’s a strong way of describing someone, yet that’s what Paul calls us. Why? What did we conquer? In the original Greek, it’s said a little differently; Paul says you are “super-winners!” Really? What did we win?

On our own, we are neither conquerors nor winners. In fact, by nature, we can properly be called “losers.” We fail to keep God’s law perfectly, which rightly would condemn us. But God did the unimaginable. He took on flesh and became a loser in our place. Then, he was put to death for all our failures.

But that’s not the end of the story, Jesus conquered death by raising himself back to life three days later. His victory over death counts for us since he is our substitute. Therefore, we are “more than conquerors,” through Jesus who loved us. You, my friends, have “won” eternal life!
