What if God says no?

The Apostle Paul is arguably one of the greatest missionaries to ever live. He went on three missionary journeys and preached the Gospel fearlessly wherever he traveled. Many people came to believe in Jesus because Paul preached the good news from Cyprus to Greece and even to Asia Minor among other places. Paul, after his conversion, was dedicated to spreading the word to the gentile nations.

However Paul’s life wasn’t all roses. He was afflicted with a thorn in the flesh. An affliction so troubling that we are told that it tormented Paul. Why would God allow for him to be tormented in this way? After all, the Holy Spirit through Paul was bringing many people to faith in Jesus as their Savior.

Paul himself says that he was given his thorn in the flesh so that he wouldn’t become conceited. God knew that it would be better for Paul to have his ailment so that Paul would rely on Jesus and not himself. The same is true for us. We have struggles in our lives but God uses those struggles to bring us closer to him. So delight in sufferings because God will use those sufferings to bring about your ultimate good, which is an eternity in heaven with him!

Amen
