What can I give thanks for?

John 6:8-11 (selected)

“Andrew said to him, 9“There’s a boy here who has five barley loaves and two fish, …” 11Then Jesus took the loaves and, after giving thanks, he distributed pieces to those who were seated.”

They were barley loaves. In those days, barley was considered to be food for the animals, so only the very poorest people would have barley loaves.

And this day’s been really tough! Jesus has wanted to get away, get some “alone” time, but the crowds had followed, so Jesus set aside his desires and spent the day healing, and teaching, and now at the end of it, he’s going to be rewarded with … a meal made out of food meant for animals.

And Jesus does what? He gives thanks.

God has blessed you and me oh-so-richly both physically and spiritually! May those rich blessings of God give you and me hearts filled with thanks, not only on Thanksgiving but every day of our lives.

Richly blessed by God, just like you,

pastor
