We Sing Prayers!
Romans 5:1-2, Matthew 6:9-13
Do we think about the honor that prayer really is? What do you think? If you wanted to talk to President Biden and you picked up your phone and called the White House, you think you’d get through? Yeah, I don’t think so. You wanted to talk to Senator Baldwin or Senator Johnson, think you’d get through? I doubt it. House of Representatives person, doubt it. Mayor of Milwaukee, maybe you’d have a little bit more of a chance, but I doubt it. Do you have access to those people? No. What if you want to talk to the almighty ruler of the heavens and the earth? The one who created the entire universe with words? The one who created you in amazing ways? And who loves you dearly? Do you have access? Oh yeah. And how often? 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. That if you want to talk to the almighty ruler of the universe, God says, welcome my son, welcome my daughter, I’m listening. Oh, and by the way, who is that God to whom you’re talking? When Jesus teaches us to pray, and so since Jesus taught it, it is the most important prayer, what does he teach us to pray? He doesn’t teach us to pray almighty God. He doesn’t teach us to pray almighty ruler of all things. He doesn’t teach us to pray, oh, Trinity in unity in unity in Trinity. Could have taught us all those things, couldn’t he have? What does he teach us? Our father. And thereby reminds you that he has established this wonderful relationship with you, where you get to come to him as your beloved father who loves you dearly. What an honor you have. May I suggest that’s worth singing about? Amen?
