We are weak, but he is strong
Luke 22:45
“When he rose from prayer and went back to the disciples, he found them asleep, exhausted from sorrow. “Why are you sleeping?” he asked them. “Get up and pray so that you will not fall into temptation.”
Was it a big “ask”? Jesus had asked Peter, James, and John to pray with and for him.
And they fell asleep instead. In a few minutes they’ll mistakenly try to stop Jesus from being taken captive, then Peter will three times outright deny that he even knows who Jesus is. Oh, how weak we sinful human beings are!
And, oh, how gracious is our Savior! Jesus never wavered. No, he wasn’t eager about having to face harsh suffering and a cruel death. Even more, he wasn’t eagerly looking forward to having to pay for the sins of the world. What a weight!
And yet, he walked straight into it! Why so? Because he loves you dearly.
And so? “Watch and pray!” Don’t let anything pull you away from the love of our Savior!
Needing Jesus to strengthen me to watch and pray, just like you,
pastor
