The Father said no?

Hebrews 5:7

In the days of his flesh, [Jesus] offered prayers and pleas with loud cries and tears to the one who was able to save him from death, …”

Did you catch it? Jesus prayed – no, pleaded, along with loud cries and tears – to the one who was able to save him. Because God is God, God can do anything. So, could the Father have “saved” Jesus? Could he have taken the suffering away? He could have!

And he didn’t. He didn’t save him.

Why so? It’s because if the Father had “saved” Jesus, he would have had to condemn you and me. So instead he did the unthinkably gracious: he chose to condemn the Son, so he could save you and me! What sufferings for Jesus; what grace to you and to me!

Thankful for God’s unthinkably amazing grace, just like you,
