The Devil’s lies… and God’s truth
“God is not stupid!” the man at the door said to me. “He will not just give you something for free! You have to earn it!” And then he shut the door and the conversation ended.
You know what’s actually stupid? What’s stupid is the idea that we could do something to earn favor from God. God’s standard is perfection! No, trying hard isn’t good enough! No, doing our best doesn’t cut it! To think that we could earn something – anything! – from God, well, that’s stupid.
And thankfully, you don’t have to. “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 9 not by works, so that no one can boast.” (Eph 2:8-9) Can you imagine? God loves you and me so much that he gives you and me the most valuable thing ever – salvation! – for free! Oh, by the way; God’s not stupid. 🙂
