Thankful for Our Daily Bread
We have so many reasons to give thanks. I don’t know about you guys, but I can smell it. I can already smell all the delicious food that I will be eating tomorrow. I can smell the deep-fried turkey that I personally will be making tomorrow. I can smell my mom’s famous ham. I can smell Amy’s fan favorite, her famous mac and cheese. I can smell my sister’s cheesy potatoes, and a southern staple that we enjoy at the Glisper household. I’m looking forward to my mom’s collard greens. I can smell them already. Not to mention all the finger foods and the desserts. And I can already see my family gathered around the TV, watching the Packer game, laughing and sharing humorous stories. Tomorrow is Thanksgiving. It is a day in which we sit back and thank God for all that He has done for us. But do we remember to thank God on a daily basis? We should be thanking Him for making us His dear children. We should be thanking Him every day for the free full forgiveness of sins that He gives to us. We should thank Him daily for our daily bread. Things like family, clothing, shelter, food, transportation, etc. But do we? In fact, I’ll say at times we do the opposite. How often do we find ourselves complaining about the very daily bread blessings that God has given to us? My house is not the house that I want. My car is not the car that I want. I don’t have the clothes that I want to wear. And at times, especially during the holidays, sometimes our own family can be the ones that get on our nerves the most. But take a second to sit back and think about how God has taken care of your daily needs. Daily He feeds you. Daily He clothes you. He provides you with shelter. He has blessed you with the family who loves you dearly. All this He does, knowing that at times we will complain, and yet and still He gives us these daily blessings anyway. All that we have, all that we will give thanks for tomorrow. All of those things are gifts from our heavenly loving Father in heaven, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing and has blessed us with everything we need in our daily lives today. So remember these things as you give thanks tomorrow about how much He has blessed you. But as Christians, we don’t need a national holiday to celebrate what God has done for us, to give thanks to God for all that He has done for us. He has taken us sinners and restored our relationship with Him. He has made us His own dear children. We thank Him again for the forgiveness of sins that He freely gives to us. And again, we thank Him for the daily blessings that He gives to us daily while we are here on this earth. So thank God today, tomorrow, and forever for everything that He has done for us. Amen.
