One Little Word || Reformation 2025

“Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.” (1 Peter 5:8) This describes the attacks of the devil. Martin Luther felt those attacks. He fell into depression and despair until he began digging into God’s Word and found answers. In fact, he found the Word of God to be such a powerful defense against the devil’s attacks that he wrote in his hymn “A Mighty Fortress” that “one little word can fell (defeat) him.” Was Luther referring to a specific word of Scripture, or any word of Scripture? We don’t know. But for today, we’ve picked out five “little words,” words which Luther may have been thinking about as he penned that verse. We’ve also found a Luther quote for each “little word.” As we look at each, we’ll see what a BIG effect each of those “little words” of God has on our lives!
