Looking for… Jesus || Advent worship series 2024
During Advent, we put ourselves into the shoes of the Old Testament (OT) believers, awaiting the Savior. So, all our readings come from the OT (one from each of the three sections of the OT) just like in the OT synagogue worship. The color is blue, for hope and royalty, as we wait expectantly for our heavenly king. Our leaders wear black robes, not because we’re mourning, but because the OT was a time of “shadows”—Jesus had not yet come. The Advent wreath—with one more candle lit each week—reminds us that during the OT, God gave more and more information concerning the Savior, more and more “light.”
This year our Advent theme is “Looking for… Jesus.” We’ll dig into prophecies from the book of Isaiah on Sundays and the book of Daniel on Wednesdays. To live without a Savior is to live in spiritual darkness. When I’m in the dark, I need light! God prophesied that the Savior would be a light-bringer.
