It happened on this day || Tuesday of Holy Week

Matthew 26:1-5

Jesus … said to his disciples, 2 “… the Passover is two days away—and the Son of Man will be handed over to be crucified.”  3 Then the chief priests and the elders of the people assembled … 4 and they plotted to arrest Jesus … 5 “But not during the Feast,” they said, “or there may be a riot among the people.”

Is it fair to say that most of us like to be in control of things? I’d guess that’s a fair statement.

On Tuesday the religious leaders thought they were in control. While they wanted to arrest Jesus and kill him, they were worried that there would be a riot with all the Passover pilgrims in Jerusalem if they did it then. So, the plan was to wait until after the Passover.

But Jesus told the disciples that it would happen during the Passover festivities. And, it happened that way. Who was in charge? Jesus was!

And so He remains in charge today. Oh, true, we often fight against His control, often question it, and try to take control ourselves.

Thankfully, God remains in control whether we humans are willingly bowing to His control, or whether we’re fighting tooth and nail against it, for ultimately, God remains God!

And by the way, knowing that Jesus was in control of the holy week events makes them all the more beautiful, because it reminds us that He was doing all this willingly because He loved you! Thank God Jesus was in control!

Thankful, like you, that JESUS is in control,
