Great seats, hey buddy?

Luke 14:11

“For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”

The scene is the NBA finals, and the Boston Celtics have just won the NBA finals. The commissioner is about to name the MVP for the finals series, and a certain player is sure that he has won the MVP trophy. He begins to step to the forefront to accept the trophy, and the commissioner announces the name of someone else who is the real MVP. Shocked and embarrassed, the player retreats to the back of the stage. He learned a lesson in humility; I am sure we all have learned to be humble as well.

Jesus, our real MVP, displayed for us true humility by suffering the punishment for all of our sins. Once poor, crippled, lame, and blinded by our sins, we have now been freed from the bondage to sin. Humbly, we thank Jesus because through faith in him as our Savior, we’ve been invited to His heavenly feast.

Most athletes desire to be like the greatest player in the sport that they love. So it is for us believers–we, too, pray to be like our MVP and humbly serve Him and others, motivated by His love for us.
