God’s Word doesn’t change!

Matthew 4:4

Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”

Jesus doesn’t leave much room for argument here, does he? He’d been fasting for 40 days, and the devil wanted him to not trust his heavenly Father for sustenance, but instead to turn the stones into bread. Jesus’ answer is that while he needed bread, he needed something much more than bread – he needed the Word of God.

If Jesus needed the Word, how much more so don’t you and I need it? In fact, if Jesus intimates that he needed the Word of God even more than food, how much more don’t you and I need the Word of God?

And why do we need the Word of God so desperately? It’s because only the Word can create, sustain, and grow faith. Only the Word of God gives forgiveness and life eternal. Only the Word of God gives love, joy, peace, patience – you know, the things we need for a good life right now.

May Jesus forgive us for failing to treasure His Word. May Jesus work in us, that we crave His Word! May Jesus use that Word to give us temporal and eternal blessings!
