God, My Father
Luke 23:46
Did you catch it? My God, my God has gone away. And it’s been replaced by what? Father. It’s been replaced by Father. Why? Because Jesus had fulfilled all of the punishment that needed to be taken for the sins of the world. The only little detail that was left was for him to give up his physical life that had to take place. But he did so not in fear, not in trepidation, not worried, but committing his spirit into the hands of his heavenly Father. My brothers and sisters, because of this day, when your last day comes and my last day comes, the prayer of Jesus will be our prayer too. Oh, maybe you won’t actually voice it, maybe you won’t actually say it, but it will be the confession of your heart. As you will say, “Father, into your hands, “I commit my spirit.” And why will you be able to do that? It’s because of the glories of this day that your brother, Jesus, stepped into your shoes and mind and paid the full price for every one of the sins that you and I had ever committed. And so our souls will be committed into the hands of our heavenly Father, who will receive us into glory, along with the Son and the Spirit, into a place filled with his fatherly love. Father, into your hands, I commit my spirit too. Amen?
