God chose you!

2 Timothy 1:5

“I am reminded of your sincere faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and, I am persuaded, now lives in you also.”

Indeed, mission work is sometimes “over there,” in faraway places, but most of the time, it’s “right here” in our towns and our homes. Yes, it’s good to support foreign mission work with our prayers and offerings, but let’s not forget that we need not cross the ocean to share the gospel “to ooze” Jesus’ love.

God has made each of us missionaries in our various callings, such as a grandmother like Lois or a mother like Eunice. Lois and Eunice oozed Jesus; their faith in Christ rubbed off on Timothy, and Timothy went on to be an influential bishop of Ephesus.

God always provides opportunities for us to serve and to share his love. Oozing Jesus isn’t just telling someone about Jesus, but being Jesus to people. It’s putting their needs before our own; it’s loving our neighbor as ourselves; it’s conducting ourselves with our words and actions that glorify God.

Be the missionary that God has made you to be, right here, right now.

Thankful for God’s glad face, just like you,

Vicar Phil
