Do you feel like a loser?

Psalm 130: 3+4

“If you, Lord, kept a record of sins,
    Lord, who could stand?
But with you there is forgiveness,
so that we can, with reverence, serve you.”

If you’ve ever felt like a loser, you’re not alone. Many people feel a sense of worthlessness and disappointment with themselves for a variety of reasons. On some level, we are right to feel like losers because all of us have transgressed God’s law in too many ways to count. We have failed and lost much. Our record is horrible and deserving of death and hell. But thankfully, our losing streak is not what defines us.

You see, on the cross, Jesus defeated sin, death, and the devil. We were forgiven our “losses” by his perfect life and innocent death. You are therefore not a loser because God graciously chooses to look at us through the lens of Jesus’ blood that paid for sin. God considered you and me worth the price of his own blood! And that makes us valuable beyond comparison. So then, you are not a loser, no matter what we may think of ourselves from time to time, or what others may say. You are a winner; that is the truth.
