Blessed to be a Child of God

So we have this wonderful relationship with God our Father, a renewed relationship where we can come to Him without fear. We know that He always has our overall good in mind. We can trust that He will be with us in good times and also in bad times. A Father who loves us unconditionally, even when we aren’t deserving of His love, we have the Cadillac of fathers, the best of the best. But have you considered, have you really, truly considered just how blessed you are to be called a child of God? Now, we tend to get caught up in the mundane routine of everyday life, and we forget about just how blessed we are. We allow various temptations to distract us from who we are, being children of God, money, our careers, our status in life, you name it. There are a thousand things that lead us away from what truly matters in this world. And that’s our spiritual relationship with God. Again, think about how richly He has blessed you. He has brought you through faith, or brought you to faith through the words and sacraments. He has nurtured and grown your faith. He has forgiven all your sins, even those sins that often creep up on a regular basis in our hearts and in our minds. He has taken away the guilt that comes from knowing that we have not lived as He would have us live, that we have not loved our neighbors as we should, and that we have not put Him first in our lives. But even with all of that, God has blessed us spiritually. So about those temptations in this world that lead us away from God, God has given us the power to resist those temptations. He has delivered us from the power of the evil one. We no longer have to fear the consequences of our sins, and we no longer have to feel hopeless as it relates to our eternal life, because God has blessed us with all spiritual blessings. Faith has made us well, and through faith, we have the promise of eternal life. We have the guarantee that no matter what trials we go through in this life, we can be at peace knowing that God has blessed us with all that we need spiritually. And He promises nothing can separate us from His love. So thanks be to God who saw our greatest need, our spiritual need, and He sent His Son to die on the cross so that we could have all spiritual blessings now and in eternity. Thanks be to the Lord who has given us everything that we need spiritually. Amen.
