Be wise like the wise men

Matthew 2:9-10

“After they had heard the king, they went on their way, and the star they had seen in the east went ahead of them until it stopped over the place where the child was. 10 When they saw the star, they were overjoyed.”

It’s easy to become discouraged, isn’t it? The Wise Men can empathize; they’d traveled at least hundreds of miles to find the infant Savior, and when they get to Jerusalem, they instead find the evil Herod, who’s disturbed, which in turn caused all of Jerusalem to be disturbed too! And, no one has heard about this newborn Savior. What?!? Had they wasted their time? Had they been wrong? Had they traveled these oh-so-many miles for nothing? How discouraged and disheartened they must have been!

And so what does God do? As they leave Jerusalem to head for Bethlehem, God put that star back up in the sky! Wow! Oh how encouraging that must have been! Verse 10 in the Greek literally reads, “They joyed joy, great very!” In our terms, they were jumping up and down with excitement!

Just when they needed it the most, God gave them the encouragement that they needed.

And so God will do with you. The all-powerful God who can put stars into the sky, take them out again, return them to the sky and even move them around, that all-powerful God will make sure that you get the encouragement that you need, too.

Thankful for God’s encouraging love, just like you,
