Be Still… Nothing Can Separate You
Romans 8:31-39
My dear friends, life is hard. We all struggle with many different things. Now we may not all face the same hardships, but I think it’s safe to say in one way or another we all have troubles in our lives. Some of us may be struggling with the stress that comes from knowing that our medical health has declined and we wonder to ourselves what is going to come next. Possibly some of us are stressed because of pressures at work, trying to hit our deadlines and we feel as though we can’t keep our heads above water. Life is hard and there will be troubles in life because we live in a scent-filled world. Hardships may even come our way because we ourselves cause them to happen because of our sinful nature and we know that the devil was always proudly looking for ways to lead us away from Jesus. But when it seems as though everything is against us, when it seems as though we ourselves are our own worst enemies, what does Jesus say to us? He says there is no condemnation for those who put their faith in him. Jesus loves us even when it seems as though the world is against us. Jesus loves us even when the pressures of this world make us feel as though God couldn’t possibly love us. It says it in our text. Nothing can separate us from the love of Christ Jesus. Jesus who lived the perfect life and died the perfect death and won victory over death and the grave on our behalf gives us discomfort. His victory is our victory. Therefore he says to us in all these things, health issues, troubles at work, financial hardships, you name it, and all these things we are more than conquerors. We win the battle against everything in this sinful world, including our own sinful nature because Jesus has already won the battle for us. My dear brothers and sisters, be still and know that the victory is already yours. Amen.
