Are you sick of the darkness?

1 John 2:1

“My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have an advocate with the Father—Jesus Christ, the Righteous One.”

I’ve never really needed a lawyer to plead my case. I can imagine that if I were in some sort of difficulty, I’d greatly appreciate having a great advocate.

In the verse above, John is writing to his “dear children” so that they wouldn’t sin. But, what was the sad reality? The sad reality was that each of them was going to sin! We’re sinners. Sinners … sin!

But when they sinned, they had an advocate, Jesus Christ, who pleaded their case before the Father. What’s his argument? “My death paid for that sin, so that person is forgiven!” And the Father accepts Jesus’ argument!

Who sins every day? You do, and I do. What do we need? We need Jesus to plead our case, every day.

Huh. Turns out I’ve needed a lawyer every day; thank God I have Jesus!

Thanking God that Jesus pleads for me, just like you,
