Are we good ambassadors?

Luke 5:8

“When Simon Peter saw this, he fell at Jesus’ knees and said, ‘Go away from me, Lord; I am a sinful man!’”

Jesus had just told them to let down their nets into deep water and that they’d catch fish. And did they ever catch fish! They caught so many that the nets were breaking and the boats were beginning to sink!

And it seemed to hit Peter all of a sudden: “Wait! I’m in a boat … with GOD!”

And that thought terrified him! Why so? Because it made him see his sinfulness oh-so-clearly. What did he “see?” Was it lack of devotion? Lack of trust? Worries and fears? Sinful thoughts? Words he shouldn’t have said, or words he’d failed to say? Any and all of that, and more?

You and I have no right to be anywhere near God, for he is holy, and we are sinners. God owes us nothing.

And yet he gives us everything! He chose to win forgiveness for us, chose to call us to faith in him, chose to baptize us into His family, etc. And can you believe it? He’s even chosen to do his eternal, most important, saving work through people like Peter, through people like you and me.

And that? That’s amazing grace!

Amazed by God’s grace, just like you,

pastor
